Does Google Fast Pair work on a Mac?
Not on its own. macOS ignores the Fast Pair signal that makes Android show a pop-up, so on a Mac you pair through Bluetooth Settings like any other device. NearPair listens for that signal and shows a setup card, so opening the case is enough to start.

Why a Mac stays silent
Fast Pair accessories broadcast a small Bluetooth Low Energy advertisement that says who they are and whether they are ready to pair. Android turns that into a pop-up. macOS has no Fast Pair support, so the broadcast goes unheard and the accessory appears only as a name in the Bluetooth list, and only if it is in pairing mode and you think to look.
Google’s account-sync features, such as an accessory already paired to your phone appearing on a new device, depend on Google services that a Mac app cannot use. Pairing itself works like any other Bluetooth accessory.
Pair it by hand
- Put the earbuds in pairing mode. On most, that means holding the button on the case with the lid open.
- Open System Settings → Bluetooth.
- Wait for the accessory to appear under Nearby Devices, then click Connect.
The list shows every Bluetooth device nearby, and some accessories appear only under a model number.
Or let the accessory introduce itself
NearPair recognises the Fast Pair broadcast, works out the accessory’s real product name, and shows a card with it. One button pairs and connects a new accessory, or reconnects one your Mac already knows.
Earbuds that share their battery over Fast Pair show each bud and the case on the card. Accessories that do not use Fast Pair are found too, and laptops and phones never get a card.
- A setup card when the case opens
- Real product names, not model numbers
- One click to pair, or to reconnect
macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon. No account, no payment details for the trial.
Questions
Which earbuds use Fast Pair?
Many Android-friendly earbuds and headphones do, including models from Google, Sony, OnePlus, JBL, Xiaomi, Nothing, Samsung and Soundcore. NearPair also recognises AirPods and accessories your Mac has already paired.
Will pairing on my Mac unpair them from my phone?
No. Pairing adds your Mac as another device. Whether the earbuds connect to both at once depends on their multipoint support.
Is NearPair made by Google?
No. NearPair is an independent Mac app. It reads the public Bluetooth broadcast and uses Apple’s Bluetooth frameworks to pair.
